Food for Thought

As much as I would like to cook, I just don't. It's a shame really, because I think I could be good at it with some practice.

I do like to check out cooking websites such as A Spoonful of Sugar and Chocolate and Zucchini.

This week, my diet has consisted mainly of Fair food, since we have been volunteering at The Antelope Valley Fair and Alfalfa Festival. Yeehaw! Emblem Club Tacos are the yummiest!

Priced to Move

Arnold Schwarzenegger is bringing old-fashioned fundraising to the State Capitol--he is holding a yard sale.

Arnold is cleaning out the State's warehouses and putting all the unused junk up for sale this weekend in a giant garage sale to be held on the lawn of the Capitol.

"..The governor was clear: If it's not being used, get rid of it." There are three airplane engines, a popcorn machine, 3,000 light bulbs for traffic signals, a lemonade dispenser and at least one forklift among the items in the 100,000-square-foot warehouse.

There's some stuff on ebay, too, inculding 30 pounds of scissors, 75 money clips, and a Ford Mustang. Kah-li-fornia's Ebay list is here.

Now, that's what I'm talking about.

Things

+ Jose introduced Will and I to this fun artist, Todd White.

+ I have one or two Gmail invites. Do you want one?

+ I broke out some legwarmers for a Totally 80s party that is supposed to be going down on Saturday Night.

The Ladies of the GOP

Britney Spears is a Republican? Isn't that just really bizarre? I mean, Britney Spears, the girl who flaunts her sexuality, kissed Madonna, had a one-night marriage. That's not exactly what I would call conservative. Now, Jessica Simpson as a member of the GOP? That I could see coming.

A Fine Balance

I just finished this hopeful and heartwrenching novel. You never know whether the next page will radiate with hope or crush you with despair.

It's one of the most memorable books I have ever read; a deeply moving, life altering book.

I highly reccommend it, but be forewarned--the ending is a quick, rusty knife to the heart.

Rainbow Bridge

We spent the weekend at Rainbow Bridge Ranch. Here we are rowing (me) and fishing (Will) on the man-made lake at Rainbow Bridge. Beyond the lake are avocado trees, citrus trees, and the beach! Beautiful!

The Ranch was named after lovely Chumash Mythology. It is said that when the Chumash migrated to the mainland, their grandmother, Hutash built them a rainbow bridge on which to cross. She warned them not to look down as they were crossing or they would fall down into the sea and die. Some did look down and fall, but because of her great love for her children, she turned them into dolphins before they hit the water.

Here are more pictures at Rainbow Bridge.

Thanks to Noel and Mark for having the hoooook-up and inviting us along for the ride!

I Have a Secret....

I really had a good time watching The Stepford Wives. Okay, so the end was a little out there and the whole thing was a bit clumsy, but I throughly enjoyed it. I liked the Reality TV parodies and the pop culture satire. I liked the feminist wit. And, well, I really liked those dresses.

The website is fun, too.

Laa Laa

This adorable baby ginger Francois Langur monkey was born at the The London Zoo last month.

What a cutie.

What?

I asked Yahoo this Question:
Does bimonthly mean 'twice a month' or 'every two months'?

Here's Ask Oxford's Response:
I'm afraid it means both! In the publishing industry, it is used fairly consistently to mean 'every two months'. The same ambiguity affects biweekly and biyearly. If you want to be absolutely clear, use a phrase such as 'twice a week' or 'every two years'.

How can this be? What kind of screwed up language is English anyway?

The French Alligator

Using Google Image Search and the word combination "French Alligator", I found the adorable above image!

I've been addicted to inputting random word combinations ever since I found Random Pictures from the Web.

It's like mad libs with a visual result.

A Tricky Question

Suppose you're on a game show, and you're given the choice of three doors. Behind one door is a car, behind the others, goats. You pick a door, say number 1, and the host, who knows what's behind the doors, opens another door, say number 3, which has a goat. He says to you, "Do you want to pick door number 2?" Is it to your advantage to switch?

The Amazing Palace Swan

Will and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary in Santa Barbara, one of my utmost favorite places in the world.

One of the best restaurants in SB is the The Palace, where we got the above delicious dessert! It is described on the menu as this: An eclair pastry baked in the shape of a swan, then filled with French Vanilla Ice Cream. The swan is served floating on a warm chocolate lake.

In other words: It's Heaven.
